Why are floor lamps good?
Everyone understands that the main function of a floor lamp is to provide a certain level of illumination of a room or part of it. But this does not end the functionality of these outdoor lighting fixtures. A floor lamp helps to zon the space. Obviously, the area in which the floor lamp is located is intended for relaxation - with a book, in front of the TV or just in a soft armchair or on the couch, talking to households.
In addition to the obvious functions, there is also an underlying functional - decoration. Obviously, in wide sale these days you can find a model for any style of interior. There are models that successfully fit into the interior, and will not distract attention to themselves; in contrast to them, there are many options for floor lamps that can become the focal center of a living room or bedroom. It all depends on what effect you expect from the presence of a floor lamp in the room.
If we talk about the advantages of floor lamps in comparison with wall or table lamps, then they have a number of obvious advantages:
- to install a floor lamp there is no need to drill holes in the wall (as in the case of wall lights - sconces),
- the floor lamp is mobile, you can transfer it to any place, deploy it in any direction, if only the outlet in the vicinity was,
- the floor lamp does not need a cabinet, chest of drawers or a table for installation (as is necessary for table lamps),
- depending on the height of the floor lamp, it is able to visually increase the height of the room.
Options for floor lamps or how to find your model
As already mentioned, a floor lamp is a tripod that holds a lampshade. So, there can be a great many options for tripods, lampshades, and their additions. The materials from which both the base of the structure and the lampshade are made are also mass. There is no strict classification of the types of floor lamps, but they can be conditionally divided into the following types:
- floor lamps with a lampshade,
- decorative floor lamps
- floor lamps for reading (with spot function),
- floor lamps, searchlights.
Floor lamps with lampshade
This is the most classic version of the floor lamp, consisting of a stand, a high tripod and a lampshade fixed at its peak. As you know, it is the lampshade that is responsible for the technical characteristics of the device, the level of dispersion and background illumination.
Traditional floor lamps have a cone-shaped lampshade. But at present, you can find many models that demonstrate a huge assortment of shapes, sizes and colors that can satisfy the needs of any stylistic trend and the homeowner with any wallet size.

Using this or that material for production of the lamp shade, designers achieve the solution of various constructive problems. This property is skillfully used by designers around the world, creating exclusive models of floor lamps.
The main task of the floor lamp is to provide additional lighting. Therefore, it is not customary to insert bulbs equal to or greater than the power of the main light source into the floor lamp. But, if the situation requires solving the problems of central lighting, then you can buy a floor lamp with a power regulator.
Traditional floor lamps are made from 1 m to 2.5 m high and can be made in a variety of design options, ranging from massive carved tripods with bright lampshades to translucent glass bases with light upper material.
Convenient floor lamps with tables are models that provide two-in-one functions. You do not need to reach for a table at a book or phone. For human convenience, the countertop is approximately at shoulder level or slightly lower.
Models of floor lamps with lampshades on adjustable tripods are very convenient. The principle of operation of such rods is similar to the ability to change the position of a table lamp, which is often used in offices to illuminate workplaces. You can bring the light closer if you read or move the light source with just one motion of the hand, if you want a more intimate setting.
Models with a lampshade on a tripod are incredibly stable, you do not have to worry about children or a pet turning the device over, it stands firmly on its three “legs”.
Floor lamps with a base made of wood or a material that successfully imitates it bring a touch of home comfort to the room, which, coupled with soft diffusing lighting, becomes the embodiment of home comfort that you want to strive after a difficult working day.

Such floor lamps look in accordance with the latest trends in the world of design, it is difficult to fit into the retro interior. A room in the classical style and country style, just can not harmoniously accept such a modern model. Types of floor lamps by the number of lamps
The brightness of the interior lighting of a room depends on the number of lamps.
